Meet Cat, an adorable grump who thinks Halloween is a nightmare.(goodreads summary)
Cat loves everything about Autumn. What he doesn't love though is Halloween! Everything about the holiday is too much. He could do without the spider cobwebs, trick-or-treaters and the terrible pumpkin faces. But after finding a quiet spot to hide and rest, someone special comes along that makes it all feel better.
Here is one more short and quick read to wrap up the spooky season for the younger kids. This simple story is in bright, bold Halloween colors with plenty of things to look at on every page. It is short in text making it a nice choice for a read aloud. It also gently reminds us that animals cannot always take the holiday commotion and can be a stressful time for them. I found this could be relatable if you have a skittish pet or even a child who themselves feel frightened or overstimulated during the Halloween season. It would make for a good conversation starter after reading about things that are scary. The ending is sweet when Cat snuggles with his owner who makes him feel safe. I think this is a "just right book" for ages 3-5.~
