Book Blogger Hop - October 28

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This week's question is a fun Halloween one:

“What is your favorite Halloween costume?
Even if you don’t celebrate, what kinds of costumes do you like?”

My Answer: We love Halloween at our house and have had many costumes over the years. I still have a closet full of extra costumes. But I think my favorite was when my husband and I were Deep Sea Divers. We used painters suits, made paper mache' helmets then painted them grey and duct taped some old shoes to look like heavy boots. My son was 15 months at that time and I made a shark costume for him. I used grey sweatpants and shirt and had sewn a stuffed fin and tail on the back. Brings back good memories.........

Another favorite is two years ago my daughter had her heart set on being a mermaid so I attempted to sew a costume for her. I tried my best and it was a little crooked but she loved it with its imperfections anyway!

I am looking forward to finding out what costumes are your favorite! Hoping to get some ideas for next year. Have a great hop weekend......Happy Halloween!

This week's question is not book related but a fun halloween one:

“What is your favorite type of candy?”

My answer:   We don't have alot of trick or treaters that come because we are at the end of a street and our neighbors always seem to not be home on that day (party poopers). I will buy our favorite candy so we can eat the leftovers. My favorite candy though is Mounds Bars, followed by Starbursts................my kids love Skittles and Three Musketeers and my husband loves Snickers.

Have a good hop weekend!!

Book Blogger Hop - October 14

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks must go to Crazy-For-Books for hosting this weekly book blogger hop. It is a fun and great way to meet other bloggers and share our thoughts. This week's question from Jen is:

“What is your favorite spooky book (i.e. mystery/suspense, thriller, ghost story, etc.)?”

My Answer:  Since I have always loved spooky stories it is hard to think of just one. But I think my favorite spooky book would be Pet Sematary and a close second would be Misery both by Stephen King. He is actually a favorite author when it comes to scary.~

I'm looking forward to reading what other's choose as their favorite spooky book and hope to find some recommendations for some new scary reads too! Have a good weekend.........

Book Blogger Hop - September 16

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to Crazy for Books for this great Book Blogger Hop question this week, iIt is a great way to meet other bloggers and share our thoughts.  Here is what Jen has to say about this weeks question!

This week, I went to Twitter for the prompt. Thank you to @fangswandsfairy for a great blogger-focused question!

“As a book blogger, how do you introduce yourself in your profile?”

My Answer:  I had a hard time writing a profile for myself. I think I had a blank page in front of me for two days and I remember going back and forth to my computer. So, I decided to just write about the passion that I had for books and how we as adults can help instill this in our children by helping them make good reading choices.  I love reading so many genres of books and passing on that "just right book" for everyone to enjoy through my blog.

I am looking forward to reading what others have said and will catch a few new profiles along the way. Have a great hop weekend everyone!!

Book Blogger Hop
Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

My Answer:  Yes I do. I am am softie when it comes to having pets. At the moment we only have our Dog who is a 9 year old golden retriever and two fish. My dog is the sweetest thing and I hate to see that she is starting to show her age this year. We did have chameleon's in the past, a gecko and  two gerbils too until this past year. My daughter has been working on a bunny for sometime now but I haven't budged on that one yet...........

Looking forward to reading how many households have pets and what kind! Have a great hop weekend!

“Non-book-related this week!! Do you have pets?”

Book Blogger Hop

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

My Answer:  This was a tough one but I think the one I struggle with most is Dystopian. I have tried a couple of books this summer but just couldn't get into it. I start them but they don't catch my interest so I've abandoned them both. They just sat on my table and I didn't find myself picking them up as much as I would another type of genre.

Maybe I haven't found the right ones? If there are any suggestions, I'd love to hear them and find one that sparks my interest and become a future fan!  Have a great weekend........

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This week’s question comes from Veronica who blogs at: Read Books, Have Fun

How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?

My answer:  The majority of the books I read come from my local libraries. When I see something new come out, I order it in right away to get on the wait list. Since I have such a big TBR pile I don't mind waiting. Although, the turn around is usually pretty fast. The next place I will get books from is our local independent bookstore.  We love going there on the weekends, grabbing a coffe and checking out the great selections. I feel it is so important to support our library and local bookstore. Sometimes I will order from Amazon if it is something I really want but that I can't find but that is rare.

Can't wait to see how everyone else finds there books. Have a great weekend!!

Book Blogger Hop

This week’s question comes from Sue who blogs at Cookie’s Book Club ! Thanks for submitting a question for our Hoppers, Sue! Be sure to visit her blog and tell her thank you!

What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?

My Answer:  What a great and thought provoking question this week!  I have abandoned books before I finished the first couple of chapters because the sentences were short and choppy or the characters feel lost. Sometimes you can just tell right away that it's not working. I think the first thing that hooks me in are the author's sentences. Are they descriptive and thoughtful word choices that are fluent?  I think another thing would be the characters and if the writing gives me a connection in anyway to them.

I enjoy books with messages and characters that are role models for our young adults and middle grade. When I do find a good selection of authors, I always search out more books by that one because I love the writing styles.

Book Blogger Hop - June 24

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This weeks question is:

“When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

My Answer:   I think I have always had a passion for books. When I was in kindergarten, I would receive Dr. Seuss Books of the Month Club delivered to my home and I think that was the start of it all. I couldn't wait for the mailman to come up those stairs with that package! Later in elementary school, I would always order from the scholastic order form and as soon as the books came would read them during class under my desk top. I remember one teacher in 4th grade that wouldn't give them to me until the end of the school day before I would catch the bus home.  I am so happy I can share this love with my children today. Both are strong avid readers themselves and hope they continue to love it as I do.....

Looking forward to reading what you have to say. It is rainy in Wisconsin "again" and a good day for reading blogs.....Have a great weekend!

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This weeks question is:

“How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?”

My Answer:  After reading some people's blogs, I don't come anywhere near what they have.  I will say though that I do have 18 books on my table right now behind me waiting as TBR. I also have 3 more that I just picked up yesterday I had on hold for a while from the library for a whenever read this summer. Also, if this counts I have 68 on Goodreads which 2 of those I have at home right now.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and look forward to hearing what you have!

Book Blogger Hop - June 3

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This weeks question is:

“Share your favorite post from the last month and tell us why it’s close to your heart!”

Follow Me

My Answer: I think a favorite post that I did this past month was for the picture book Follow Me by Tricia Tusa. The story was written in a poetic verse but the illustrations captured my heart the most. I loved the expression of the girl swinging on her swing and using her imagination to float around the colors of her yard. I think it is a beautiful picture book and glad to be able to share my thoughts about it........

Hope you all have a great weekend. Finally getting hot summer weather here in Wisconsin. We are long overdue for some nice weather around these parts. Looking forward to hopping by and reader other's favorite posts.

Book Blogger Hop

This week's question comes from Britta who blogs at I Like These Books:

"What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked?  Which have you disliked?"

My Answer:  I know that it's so hard to cram a whole book into a two hour movie, so I usually don't think about the book I've read while watching it. A couple of  movies that I know I did like were Charlie St. Cloud and The Time Travelers Wife.  I am waiting to get Percy Jackson on Netflix this upcoming summer so my family and I can watch it since my kids really loved the series. I am hoping good things for that one....

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend!! Looking forward to reading what you liked and disliked for some recommendations to view over the summer break.

This week's question comes from Ivan who blogs at Ivan Bookworm:

"If you were given the chance to spend one day in a fictional world (from a book), which book would it be from and what would that place be?"

My Answer:  The first thought that popped in my head would be Harry Potter. But that seemed too easy of a choice, so I thought a little harder (glad it is Friday and not a Monday) and came up with the world of  Frell in the book Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.  I think it would be fascinating to visit a time with castles, fairies, giants and of course, a prince........

Hope you have a great hop weekend and looking forward to reading other answer!

Are you going to Book Expo America (BEA) and/or the Book Blogger Convention (BBC) this year?"

My Answer:  I think that both of these would be a great opportunity to attend but I have to say No, I am not. Like many other blogs I have been viewing, I am in the same boat as everyone else financially. What a bummer cuz it sounds like a worthwhile trip..........

Have a good hop weekend everyone!!

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to  Crazy-for-books for hosting this hop, I hope to hop on from time-to-time......I also found some new blogs and I am looking forward to knowing what others are reading and saying!

This week's question comes from Christina who blogs at The Paperback Princesses.  She asks:

"If you find a book you love, do you hunt down other books by the same author"

My Answer:   I never really thought about this but Yes, I Do. I guess that is how I've come up with my favorite authors I do have and look forward to any new books coming out by them. Although, I have found other novels that I really didn't care for by that same author as well. I realized just now that I also do this whenever I get books for my kids. I usually ask them if they liked the book first and if so would they read more by the same author. After my next trip to the library or bookstore, I'll find them a couple more!  Have a great hop weekend and Happy Easter everyone!! I look forward to reading what you have to say too.

"Pick a character from a book you are currently reading or have just finished and tell us about him/her."

My Answer:  I am currently reading and actually almost finished with the book  The Year Money Grew on Trees by Aaron Hawkins. The main character is Jackson Jones, who is 13 years old and diligently works on an apple orchard owned by his elderly neighbor. If he succeeds at reviving and growing a healthy orchard, then she will give it to him for a price of $8,0000 and he gets to keep any profits he makes too. Jackson is a smart boy who takes the process as a challenge and learns alot along the way. He has perserverance and bounces with  every up and down that is thrown at him. I think he is a good role model for kids and will show them that in order to succeed, you should never give up. I am looking forward to finishing this book and cheering him on along the way!

I can't wait to hear what others are reading and their characters of choice.  Have a great weekend...........

"Since today is April Fool's Day in the USA, what is the best prank you have ever played on someone OR that someone has played on you?"

Actually, I was hoping our local weatherman was playing an April Fool's joke this morning because they are calling for rain/snow mix for today.  yuck!

My Answer: I think back to when I was a senior in High School  I had a really great English teacher first period. We all came into the classroom and sat down and he announced there was going to be a pop quiz today. He walked around with a green sheet of paper placing it upside down on our desks and told us not to look at it or start yet. Everyone in class groaned and then he said it was going to be a timed test now too and we had to get it done in five minutes or it will be an F. When he said "ready, start your test now",  we turned it over and it was a sheet of paper that said April Fool's on it.   I told my son this morning, who is a freshman in HS this year, to watch out for those prankster teachers.

Looking forward to reading what others have to say!   Have a great weekend.......

This week's question comes from Mina who blogs at Mina Burrows:
"If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?"

My Answer:  This is a tough one because there are so many good books or series.  I really am having trouble selecting.........

I think it would be the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I have always been drawn to Greek Mythology and find it fascinating.  A second choice would be The Chronicles of Narnia. How cool would it be to walk into a wardrobe whenever you want to find a new world waiting for me.

The Lightning Thief            The Chronicles of Narnia

Have a great Hop Weekend Everyone!! I'm looking forward to reading what others have said.

This week's question comes from Somer who blogs at A Bird's Eye Review (her blog design is ADORABLE - check it out!):
"Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?"

My Answer:  First of all a big Happy Birthday to the Book Blogger Hop. Thank you Crazy for Books for keeping it going so long. We wouldn't be doing this if it were not for your dedication!!

Next, on to this week's question.  I usually only read one book at a time (I think I would get my stories mixed up if I didn't). But I do have an extra book upstairs on my night table that I'll read to get myself sleepy but really not that often. I'm usually too tired at the end of the day........

Happy Hop Weekend!!

This week's question comes from Ellie who blogs at Musings of a Bookshop Girl:

"If I gave you £50 (or $80) and sent you into a bookshop right now, what would be in your basket when you finally staggered to the till?"

My Answer:  Oh, that would be so nice...... To actually have an extra $80 and purchase some books instead groceries or over priced gas for the car or well, you get the idea. I think it would be a fun trip and I would probably be there all day because I would have a hard time deciding. But I did think of a few that I would like to read right now (instead of having to be number 46 on the library waiting list......). Have a good hop weekend!
